Slow speeds can be caused by several factors, most of which are related to the local network conditions at your destination.

Common causes

Network congestion

In busy areas (tourist hotspots, events, rush hour), the local network can be congested. Speeds typically improve during off-peak hours.

Limited coverage area

Rural or remote areas may only have 3G coverage, which is naturally slower than 4G/5G.

Network selection

Your phone may have connected to a slower network. Try manually selecting a different network:
  • iPhone: Settings > Mobile Data > tap Roamly eSIM > Network Selection > turn off Automatic and select a different carrier.
  • Android: Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs > Roamly eSIM > Network operators > select manually.

Things to try

  1. Toggle the eSIM off and on to force a fresh network connection.
  2. Restart your phone.
  3. Move to a different location — even a few hundred metres can make a difference in signal quality.
  4. Switch network manually — Try connecting to a different carrier from the available networks list.
  5. Check your data usage — If you’ve used all your high-speed data, some plans may reduce speeds. Check your usage on My eSIMs.

Expected speeds

  • 5G: Up to 100+ Mbps
  • 4G/LTE: 10-50 Mbps
  • 3G: 1-5 Mbps
